-The Palliser novels.

Only Trollope I've ever read was Barsetshire stuff, and that was back in the early 70s, at the latest.

Sorry.

How about Angela Thirkell?

It was supposed to be the Barsetshire chronicles of course, not Barchester!

It didn't whet your appetite for more Trollope then?

I haven't read any Angela Thirkell.

Trollope was fun but he fell far behind my other reading addictions.

Angella Thirkell wrote something like 30 novels set in Barsetshire, in the 1930s-1940s.

For that matter, Ronald Knox wrote one such. And M. R. James set one of his ghost stores in Barchester Cathedral.

I collect Knox and James, but never returned to Trollope. Too much to do.

He's great comfort reading. And, as I have a kindle, I can get all his work for free, I think. It was through the free kindle novels that I discovered him.

If you dive in, blindly, and strike gold, report back.

For some of us, Trollope is like a glass of fine wine by the fireplace. He is one of my favorites.

So, outside the parameters in the OP, what would you recommend?

Right, just finished The Surgeon's Mate and must not buy anymore Aubrey/Maturin books right now!

I would that there were more Aubrey/Maturin to buy.

Found 2 new Dewey Lambdins, though.

Oh, good. I was taken aback by the thread title, thinking a key word misspelt.

Before I opened this, I knew what you were up to.

I've started Orley Farm on reading it recommended by someone. I expect to be quietly pleased as always with Trollope, and will report back if there are any surprising negatives or positives.

Of course, it's at a bit of a disadvantage as I actually really want to go on with Aubrey and Maturin, but I shall try to read a couple of other novels before giving in and purchasing The Ionian Mission.
