I'd like a suggestion on a good book (or books) on the Crusades. Thanks much. :wave
(I see that this cross posted in both the General Forum and The Book Store... )

Hilaire Belloc wrote a book on the Crusades. I haven't read it, so I can't comment on how easy or understandable it is.

I am also grateful for suggestions on books about the Crusades, and hope more reviews will be submitted. Comparing the comments of historians Bokenkotter and McSorley about the Crusades, I am appalled at the anti-church inuendo and out-right deceit of Bokenkotter and his ilk: (p140) "...the Church made great compromises in adapting the message of its founder to the exigencies of a feudal society. Its barbaric holy wars, its crude anti-semitism, its sanguinary inquisitions, and its chase after witches, are enough to show how far compromise could go."
Please do not get the book of the atheist J Reston (the only one in our pathetic public library).
