I picked up one of this books, "Prince of Darkness: And Other Stories". It's a book full of a bunch of short stories that he has written for some newspapers.

I had read time and time again (while researching the guy) that the reason he isn't known as well now is that his work lacked a timeless feel because of his subject matter: the clergy.
I had read praises of Powers from many other authors... one being Evelyn Waugh. Waugh saying that Powers was a great humorist. Nice accolades coming from Waugh who himself is very apt at humor in his own stories.

JF Powers short story "The Lord's Day" is the funniest thing I have ever read. I could not stop cracking up at his subtle humor. The way he developed his characters I could easily see them as being real people with real foibles that make them very funny.
