Almost anything by Evelyn Waugh. One of his funniest books is Men at Arms, which just has some absolutely hilarious stuff in it. Scoop is quite comical. Decline and Fall. Black Mischief. Vile Bodies. The Loved One. Etc. I'd say to stay away from The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold, though. Too dark to count as funny, IMHO. Worth reading, I mean, but not as a humorous book.

I thought Catch-22 and Confederacy of Dunces were great

I've noticed in the What are you reading thread that you've already read some Wodehouse, so...

Dickens can be quite funny in places. Not in the manner of Wodehouse, more dry, but still amusing. Pickwick Papers especially. Fielding and Sterne are good bets, too.

I absolutely hated Confederacy of Dunces. YMMV.

This also contains recipes for feasts. Even quince is mentioned there. :)

I have to add "Marley and Me' - a book with absolutely no redeeming social value, except that i laughed until I actually hurt.
Except if you'ever known a dog, you need to skip the last couple chapters. It was like losing again every dog I had ever loved.

I should like to add the Tatler and the Spectator. Endlessly amusing. I :cloud9: Sir Roger de Coverley.

We saw it differently. I guess one had to appreciate New Orleans and nerds to laugh out loud, as I did when reading it.
