I discovered the 1990s BBC series on Acorn and binge watched every single season (or “series,” as they call it over there). Based on the murder mystery books by Ellis Peters, it’s a fascinating and well-researched take on not only the Church, but also politics, society, and life in general in 12-century England along the Welsh border.

Now you have my interest piqued. I have English ancestry on my dad's side. And St. Edward the Confessor, the 11th century King of England who originally established Westminster Abbey, is my namesake (and his feast day is two days before my birthday -- my mom swore up and down that I wasn't named after him). As an aside, it's on my bucket list to visit Westminster Abbey for their "Edwardtide" celebration they have every October. Not going to happen this year, but I'm hoping maybe next year, for my 50th birthday, if I'm healthy.

.... and yes, I know Westminster Abbey is not Catholic and I can't receive communion there. I think it's still OK to go on pilgrimage in honor of my name-saint, yes?

I know of one such, per the OP. Will he weigh in?

Yes. He very well may. He weighs in at around 168 lbs.

And is in the same house with a complete Cadfael book collection, many books signed, and a complete collection of the DVDs. And a couple of reference books. And some audio dramatizations.

So, speaking of weighing in, where do you stand on the casting of Derek Jacobi as Bro. Cadfael? I completely understand the argument that he doesn’t look at all Welsh, but I thought his portrayal was sublime. Then again, I’d think a performance of Derek Jacobi reading the phone book would be sublime.

He (the second most ardent Cadfael fan in the house, the books mentioned above not being his, but his gifts to the most ardent Cadfael fan resident) agrees completely with you.
