I have a complete hardcover edition of the 11-volume set of Will & Ariel Durant's The Story of Civilization with each volume in its original paper dust cover. There is even a Wikipedia entry on the opus which provides details.

And there are rumors or references to Will Durant's returning to Catholicism very shortly before his death:

Thread on Will & Ariel Durant at Catholic Answers Forums

The Epic of The Durants

I am willing to part, sadly  , with the set, which I have only skimmed, for $109 including shipping. Here's an image of the set though the dust covers for mine are not as good as those shown here. The set is in good to very good condition though the paper dust covers are worn or even torn.

Please contact me if you are interested. Thank you.

2 Sept 2018 UPDATE: I'm no longer offering these for sale. Sorry.

Be aware that Durant's deathbed reversion was headline news for a reason. He spent some time as a young man in a Catholic seminary but became convinced that God does not exist. A sort of gentle disillusioned atheism affects the way that Christianity is displayed in the books.

Durant was indeed an atheist, but unlike many atheists, he was not anti-religious, and he viewed religion as a positive force in the world and believed that religion plays an essential role in society that cannot be played by anything else. He was not one of the 'religion has ruined the world' type atheists, like Edward Gibbon. Thus, his account of the origins of Christianity may be naturalistic, but it is not overtly hostile

Thus my use of the word "gentle."

I'm 368 pages into Volume 1 (Our Oriental Heritage). At the current rate reading the entire set will take me about 7 or 8 years. I'm about 1/3 through (169 pages into) J.N.D. Kelly's Early Christian Doctrines which I started about the same time.

Durant denies God's existence, refutes and discredits all religions, and tries to destroy the faith of readers repeatedly, obnoxiously. His effort is to lead readers to hell, "gently?" Burn the books, or get a black magic marker like the DOJ.
He returned to Catholicism repenting these books.

No, he didn't, he died an atheist. He literally spent his entire life writing that series, he most certainly did not repent of it.

And it is also not true that in the series he tried to destroy anyone's faith. He was an atheist, yes but he was not a militant 'religion is the chief focus of evil in the modern world which must be destroyed' kind of atheist. He believed that religion was a positive and beneficial force in society because religion taught morality and encouraged decent conduct, and as such he had no desire to attack anyone's faith or convince anyone else that God didn't exist. He was a 'live and let live' kind of guy. I am frankly wondering what series you read.
