So, the Hoopla service from my library had a new release in the Science Fiction/Fantasy genre by William Forstchen. Looking deeper, this new release is the third in a series.

Last night DH and I began listening to the audio book of the first novel "One Second After". So far, it is not the greatest novel I've read, but, it is very listenable. The whole "after the EMP" genre has many bad novels for sure, and I believe this one may be the exception.

Newt Gingrich wrote the foreword/introduction.

This is a series/author who is new to me. Anyone else?

And if you like this sort, have you read "Lucifer's Hammer" by Larry Niven?

I've read something by him, but I looked at list of his books and nothing really leapt out at me--maybe his collaboration with Newt?

Interesting how there are some pretty blatant Catholic things in this book so far. And good things, not the standard issue Catholic bashey things. My gutty says that the main character is a non practicing Catholic who is slowly rediscovering Faith in this disaster (the thing that is MISSING from so many disaster novels) without it being ON THE NOSE, hamfisted stuff.

Have you ever read Ring of Charon, Roger McBride Allen? Good old fashioned disaster SF.

So long ago I can't remember anything about it.

I-ve read some of their alt-history.

On the local gun board, everyone loves One Second After and sequels. I haven't read it myself, but I guess I oughta.
