Hi:

I see you recommend a quick introduction when one joins this site, so here we go:

I am an adult convert to Christianity, and am a member of a congregation in the Reformed branch of Christ’s church.

However, I have benefited greatly from people in your tradition along the way, and always appreciated some of the strong points of your branch of Christ’s church, such as your spiritual practices, monastic tradition, use of philosophy and reason, and strong emphasis on compassion, including working for the poor, and the powerless.

I am not considering joining the Catholic church (although it was one denomination I considered when I became a Christian, because some of the people who helped reveal God to me were Catholic, or are considered part of your tradition). I happened to meet another participant here and they recommended this site, so I thought I’d come and see what goes on here, and maybe get answers on some Catholic beliefs and practices, of which I have some from time to time.

Hi Eustace! Welcome to the board.

This (especially the Catholicism 101 forum) is a good place to learn about the Catholic Church. One thing you'll probably learn here is that we don't consider the Catholic Church to be a branch or a denomination, but rather that it is the Church that Christ founded and that it contains the fullness of His teachings. I'm happy that you are here and hope that you will stay around and learn more about the Church!

The 'reformed' churches are those that trace their history back through John Calvin. Reformed , Presbyterian, Dutch Reformed, United Church of Christ, Puritans, Hugenots, are some of the names you may have run across.

Hi Eustace, welcome to DCF! Your name reminds me of a character in a C.S. Lewis book. Glad you've found us! :wave
