Well just an interesting aside...
went to visit my son in Anchorage and had to parley with a black bear to get back in my car..... My son has a bear proof garbage can but the next guy up doesn't so bear walks past my son's place to dine in the next garbage can.... :( and being old i don't move so fast..... and being plump i'd make a great entree....

Bears in Anchorage? When I lived there, you had to get a ways from the city to see bears.

Now, moose and deer? All over the place.

Where on the peninsula are you?

Deer??? There were Deer here??
Really?
wow... new one to me....
and i've been here since '64... altho they did spot a cougar out of Homer last month. And my daughter had a bobcat on the porch and she lives north of Homer.....
i'm kind of centrally located on the Peninsula some little distance from the inlet. But i dipnet the mouth of the Kenai when the reds run. There are so many houses in Anchorage people have really encroached on the wildlife. There are houses from potter marsh near the Turnagain Arm up to past Matanuska Valley...And thanks again for the tech support... all is well now... and when were You here?? Best!motsfo

I lived there from 77-80. My father was stationed at Elmendorf AFB. We lived, for a time, in a trailer park quite close to St. Patrick Church very close to the foothills. We had some monstrous wind storms in 1980 that ripped through our area and leveled houses. No major earthquakes though.

My dad was stationed at Elmendorf too, but back in '64 and the foot hills is where my son lives now...in fact, now that i'm thinking about it... does the Muldoon trailer park mean anything to You?? cause my son goes to St. Pat's too. And there is a main running trail that goes along the foothills to the east of Anchorage that a grizzle attacked a man on this spring...... and he shot and killed it.... Good thing too because there was a group of hs track kids not too far behind him.... and the bear was protecting a moose kill. i can feel all the viewers shudder.... and the weather has gotten much sunnier and warmer..... (go global warming!) So in short, Ya'll come on up! esp if it's too hot down there.... Best!motsfo....

We had a bear, in Newmarket, just north of Toronto, on Sunday morning.... it was a big deal.... lots of police, all day long.... they finally tranqualized him and relocated him.

Hey, do they have a, Strange animal behaviour, forum here?

It was a black bear. An adult. No we don't usually have bears in the city.... this was kind of a first... (maybe they used to be more common years ago, but I don't know)

It was a big deal. There were lots of police and people had to stay inside their homes. He climbed up a tree in someones back yard and was there for hours, until they used a tranqualizer gun on him. It was all over the news.

That's the one. I imagine Monsignor Murphy is no longer around. If so, I'm sure he's still got a wicked sense of humor.

Lilmomma! Black Bears are dangerous....even more than grizzles... well except for polars... and a tourist thought they saw one(polar) toward Seward but turned out to be a light glacier bear...and we were all trying to figure out how a polar got to Seward.... like it would have had to pass us......

and i think we would have noticed a POLAR BEAR!!!
