Hello,

I finally decided to introduce myself after lurking for a few weeks. I'm 31 years old, have been married for four years, and am currently a full time undergrad student.

I wasn't brought up in any church (religion was a forbidden topic in our house when I was growing up), and became interested in occultism when I was 16. I converted to Christianity shortly after my marriage, and was baptized in an Episcopalian cathedral. I later began attending an ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) church, largely at the prodding of my wife, who was raised Lutheran. I suppose that makes me a Lutheran.

However, over the past few months I've come to feel that I can no longer accept the dominance of Liberal Protestantism, which I regard as another religion, in the national church, despite the orthodoxy of my local church. The fact that the various Protestant churches have succumbed to liberalism (to varying degrees) while the Catholic Church has refused to capitulate has led me to seriously consider converting.

So, I guess I'm currently at a point where I would like to believe that the Catholic Church is the true church of Our Lord, but not sure that I do believe it (yet).

-- Christopher

HI, Christopher! Welcome to the board. Feel free to ask any questions you have about the faith (The Catholicism 101 forum is the best place for that.) There are many here who will give you great answers.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

Faithfulservant, I'm in southwest Houston, near the Beltway and Richmond. If you don't mind my asking, what parish do you go to? I visited Annunciation last Sunday (I had hoped to attend their Tridentine Mass, but I overslept so went to their english Mass instead).

And I'd be very interested in getting together in person, perhaps for lunch? Although it sounds like it would be a bit of a trip for at least one of us.

Annunciation is beautiful isn't it? they have a Latin NO at 11 i believe
wish my parish was...i'm from Prince of Peace... we're one of the "progressive" mega churches...with over 6000 families...with geometric shaped stain glass and a sanctuary that looks like a big auditorium :(

i know the beltway and richmond area well...use to work for westerngeco (richmond and gessner), when i had a job... always up for lunch...got any suggestions as to where...?

I know that area. I was around there on a business trip ( Beltway and Westheimer) in early Dec.

I was able to make an evening Confession at St. Cyril.

Not enought to recommend it one way or the other.

Faithfulservant,

That sounds good. Why don't you pm me and we can work out the details?
