Hi, I'm tom58, real name Tom. I've finally got the time to type my hello to this fourm after a week or two of sitting around and reading.

I'll give you a little background on my religious life. First I was baptized and brought up United until the age of 12 when I was given the choice to be confirmed United or to go looking on my own. (A choice I am extremely grateful to my parents for giving me.)

So after that I randomly floated from church to chuch then a few years of not attending church. During this time, at age 14, I had my first expiriance with the Catholic Church during summer training with a Benidictine Brother who was a chaplin at the camp. Not to much happened from then on until I met a girl........isn't that a cliche.

Anyways she was the daughter of the pastor of the local Seventh-Day Adventist church and we ended up going out for a year and a half. Long story short I was about two days away from being rebaptized SDA when the relationship feel through. Now I wasn't getting baptized for the relationship but within 24 hours of our relationship ending she was going out with a known drug dealer and gang member. For that reason, the preachers kid being above the rules, I beat a hasty retreat from that church.

Which brings me to now!! I know, I told you I was lost. So now I'm trying to find a church that I can be part of for the rest of my life. I've thought of going back to the United church but I don't agree with some of the docternal points. I think the Catholic Church may be the one for me but I'm still searching and praying for an answer.

Anyways hello to everyone and thanks for taking the time to read my message..................still have a few hours until I can watch Benidect XVI inugeration....should be fun and a good learning expiriance.

Edit: I should add that I'm 17 soon to be 18 now.

Hang out and look around. And, really, when I say that there is nothing too goofy to ask, there is NOTHING to goofy to ask if you really want honest answers about the Catholic Church. Try Cat101 forum.

This is also a great fellowship board, too.

Welcome to DCF, Tom!!

Justin

Welcome Tom! Im Nathan, 22 years old, and a recent convert to the Catholic faith (2004). I was raised Protestant like you, left the church I was raised in, like you, and nearly joined another denomination because of a girlfriend, just like you. And just like you I abandoned all of it when the relationship fell through :D Hmm. Maybe our situations arent all that uncommon. You've come to a great message board here. I'll pray for you as you come to learn more about the beauty and Truth that is Catholicism. PM me anytime.
