Hello all,

Sorry if this seems a little lengthy.

My best friend and I have been discussing which Church we should join recently. I am an Anglican by background and I have a lot of love for the Anglican Church. She went to a Catholic school and considers herself Catholic, though her religious background, too, is also strongly Anglican and she is more liberal than I. My conservatism is a main reason for having second thoughts about the Anglican Church, as well as its lack of devotion to Saints, Eucharist issues and so forth. I don't support female ordination, SSM, etc.

However, I also have a strong leaning towards Orthodoxy, in considering such as the Filioque Controversy and the Doctrine of Original vs Inherited Sin - with these issues I lean Orthodox (I also cross myself in the Eastern style). Still, I am a Western European and my Anglican past, heritage and so-on make me want to explore Roman Catholicism further because I could be wrong, in error, and might come fully to the Catholic Church. So I am a past Anglican looking to join the RC or the OC. Thus I have come here to learn, ask questions, be persuaded and so on.

Previously I have tried various kinds of Christianity, Christianity sans Paul, Luciferianism, Zoroastrianism (this one was very strong on me, I like it), Asatru, dabbled in Vaisnavism, Deism and other ideas. I'm also very knowledgeable about Islam and I hate that religion.

Recently I have been suicidal from existential thoughts (I'm not asking for your pity) and a friend was concerned so he phoned the police, who then phoned me to make sure I am still alive. These thoughts involved such things as, Why, if we merely evolved, live, mate and die, do we have morals at all? Why is not everyone a nihilist? Why be good? What happens after I die, just nothing? Why am I bothering to get up every morning? I feel as though this is my last chance to reunite myself with my soul, which is clearly distressed. I am reminded of Peter saying, "Lord, to whom shall we go?"

I almost went to University but I decided not to. I don't feel as though it's in my best interests. I'm 21 and I live in North England with my grandparents and my father. My preferred Bible translations are The D-R, KJV (it has to be on there!), JB and NJB, and RSV.

Thanks,

Blessings

I'm hoping Obi-Wan Kenobi will step in - he's the person you want to talk to. He converted from Anglicanism/Episcopalianism to Catholicism, then became a priest. He'll be able to relate to both your and your friend's points of view.

For information on Orthodoxy, the resident expert (IMHO) is Light of the East. He's a valued source on that side.

A number of us former Anglicans here ... the US version, at least. Regardless, hola!
