since i know you are a fan and semi-music aficionado

i was coming home this morning listening to the sirius radio listener top 100 beatle songs that featured their other worldly brilliance (or some such blather) and was a tad surprise to find lovely rita come in at 75... i also heard the top 3 yesterday and was somewhat taken aback by that order as well... it was certainly different

so whattaya think ... would you slide lovely rita in above or below 75 and what would be your top 3 beatle songs

any one else may give their opinion of course .... i almost started the thread yesterday when the top 3 came down... #75 just gave me more pause for thought

for you late coming fans... just name your top 10 beatles singles you would take if you could have no other to listen to forever

I don't know if I'd put Lovely Rita in the top 75, but I don't actually know how many songs they recorded.

Top 3 is difficult. I generally put the Abbey Road medley on top. I am not sure what comes after that. Depends on mood more than anything, I reckon.

1. Abbey Road Medley
2. Paperback Writer
2. Can't Buy Me Love
2. I am the Walrus
2. Here There and Everywhere
3. And I Love Her
3. A Day in the Life
3. I Want to Hold Your Hand
3. Eleanor Rigby
3. Let it Be

iirc, doom once said they had somewhere around 213 or 223..somewhere in that vicinity .... so that would be lovely rita in the top 3rd

i must say i am completely surprised at yours also ... but then opinions are that...every one has one and they will be are varied as they can be.... i must admit i was not a monstrous hard core fan of one particular group back then , i just welcomed the wave of variety the 60s allowed.... having sad that , i will do a little investigation as i cannot rattle off a top 10 like you did

in the meantime, the sirius listeners top 3 for whatever the parameter was are #3 here comes the sun #2 hey jude #1 yesterday

fwiw, rolling stone top 100 top 3 are #3 strawberry fields 2) i want to hold your hand #1 a day in the life

rolling stone had here comes the sun as #28 hey jude at #7 and yesterday at #4

i'll be back later with my top 10

Just google Beatles discography to get the list. For me, I would need a top 25 or 30.

the number depends on whether you count the multiple versions of songs like "Love Me Do" and "Let it Be" as different songs. As far as distinct songs they recorded 213.

Now if you count stuff like "Live at the BBC", or the outtakes on the three volumes of the Anthology, and draw a distinction between the stereo and mono versions, and so on, then the number is easily well over 1000.

1. Let It Be
2. Hey Jude
2. A Day In The Life
2. Norwegian Wood
2. Strawberry Fields Forever
3. Come Together
3. Long and Winding Road
3. If I Fell
3. Eleanor Rigby
3. Sgt Pepper

OK, if you didn't like my first list, here's another one that I might just as easily have come up with if you'd asked at a different time.

1. Abbey Road Medley
2. We Can Work it Out
2. Girl
2. Get Back
2. Drive My Car
2. I'm Looking Through You
3. It Won't Be Long
3. She Loves You
3. Dear Prudence
3. Hey Bulldog

That's a different sort of standard than I guess I was applying. If I could pick ten that would be all I'd hear...I would have to rethink a bit. But I could easily put together a third top three list that include several of these songs.

1. Abbey Road Medley
2. Strawberry Fields
2. Penny Lane
2. Norwegian Wood
2. Hey Jude
2. If I Fell
...that's about as far as I'd go with your list. I like Long and Winding Road, but it's not going to be in my top 50 Beatles songs, I'm pretty sure. Same for Come Together and Sgt. Pepper. I already used Let it Be and Eleanor Rigby in earlier lists.

But to finish my third top three list, I'd maybe go with:
3. Nowhere Man
3. Because
3. Help
3. Please Please Me

The ten Beatles songs I'd pick to keep if I could keep only ten. They're not necessarily my favorite Beatles songs, but they're the ones that I guess I see as most iconic or maybe just most nostalgic for me. The Beatles were always my favorite band, from as early as I had any interest in music.

1. Hey Jude
2. Let it Be
3. Yesterday
4. In My Life
5. Paperback Writer
6. Please Please Me
7. Can't Buy Me Love
8. Get Back
9. She Loves You
10. Hard Day's Night
11. I Saw Her Standing There
12. Twist and Shout

Seriously, you can't do ten.

look at us... we shared 2 of our top 10 :laughhard

maybe amon98 will be inspired to share his 25 or 30

i could name another 10 with no trouble also ... i do wish i could remember the exact wording they used for what they were voting on this labor day weekend.... i'm thinking it obviously made a difference as to which songs were chosen

sirius beatles channels listeners also had top 100s in previous years...probably by phrasing it as vote for your favorite (10) or whatever the number is .... i'll see if those numbers still exist

I consider the medley's beginning to be You Never Give me Your Money. :fyi:

Which version? I definitely prefer the one with George's guitar solo.

I've never imagined a different take on the issue. They reprise You Never Give Me Your Money towards the end of the medley. That kind of makes it pretty clear it's part of the medley!
