Do places with religion have more crime than places which don't?

Phrased another way: what are the social effects of atheist secularism?

I bet the pickle will ask you for a definition of "religion." :D

And it's not an irrelevant question. What are you going to qualify as an atheist secular society? The USSR? China? Nazi Germany? Pol Pot in Cambodia?

Consider Scandinavian countries vs Hungary/Poland.

You want to compare Iron Curtain countries to non-Iron Curtain countries, with the supposition that their apparent religiosity is the thing that makes the difference?

What counts as crime? Abortion? Spousal abandonment? Serial Bigamy? Contraception use? Pornography use? Drug use? Shameless consumerism? The passing on of debt to future generations? The destruction of topsoil and the loss of soil fertility? Spoliation of fossil fuels? Vicious and despicable treatment of farm animals? I'd say yes to all. Now, compare an actually religious society--say, the Amish--with a much more secularistic society--say, the larger American culture and ask who does better in these terms.
