Without looking it up, tell me what you think may be meant by "a stylus"?

I wonder if it's a word that most native English speakers readily understand.

I would say a device similar in shape to a small pen with or without a soft tip used for interfacing with a touch screen on a computer or tablet. The earliest ones I remember were used with palm pilots.

As I remember, Diamond and Ruby ones were the top of the line.

Yep. Part of the cartridge.

As I remember, Diamond and Ruby ones were the top of the line.


They would stay sharp, and give the thing a sparkly look.

Much classier than gramophone needles, made of bamboo.
