My daughter and her husband will be honeymooning in Europe next month. They would like a tour of the Vatican, and are hoping for something guided, because they want to learn as much as they can about everything they see.

Any suggestions?

If they are Catholic and/or interested in history, be sure to sign up for the Scavi Tour in advance.

Also, if Catholic, contact their parish priest and ask whom to ask at the diocese chancery about getting tickets for any Wednesday General Audiences and/or special events during their time there.

4 hour guided tour of the Vatican museums & Sistine chapel was brilliant - went last May.

There are private guides that can be arranged. They are expensive, but, IMO, well worth it.

The issue is the crowds, which can make the visit a death march. Be prepared. And the general audience is well worth it; make sure they get tickets.

They want to sign up for the Scavi Tour, but it appears they sell out quickly.

As I recall, the General Audience is free, but, depending upon the crowd, tickets may be required. In advance.

For the Scavi Tour, if you can't get tickets in advance, then on the first day there, go to their office and let them know what days you are available (and in what language). They can often add a few at the last minute.

YES

The PNC https://www.pnac.org/visitorsoffice/vaticanmuseums/

and Rick Steves books/website.

There are a million hustlers trying to sell unsuspecting tourists Vatican tours, Vatican tickets, etc.

Trust the PNC and Rick Steves.

Since it is their honeymoon, I'm not sure how they could coordinate this, but there are special tickets for newlyweds called Sposi Novelli: https://www.catholicmatch.com/institute ... in-person/

That sounds wonderful. Sadly, they were married in a civil ceremony. And this is a delayed honeymoon. They were married September 2nd, but had to wait for the new year for paid time off from work.

Happily, they were able to book the Scavi Tour, and have found a semi-private tour. :)

So, they can see if they can get married in Italy. That would be apropos.

While I do see evidence of the Holy Spirit working in them, right now they are not properly disposed to a valid sacramental marriage. My son-in-law was raised Baptist, and my daughter hasn't practiced her Catholic faith in years. She has shared with me some of their spiritual discussions/debates, etc., and it gives me great hope. They went to a Cathedral during Advent for an evening of readings and song (you could have knocked me over with a feather). They also went to a non-denominational service on Christmas Eve (they were invited to a relative's faith community), and they were appalled at the irreverence and lack of worship there.

I pray that this trip adds to the spiritual nudges that they seem to be responding to.

I was at Rome last May.

I did visit Vatican but I saw Pope Francis at Rome really far from the Vatican.
