Let's state this up front. I am a Guillermo del Toro fan girl.

If I could only see one more film in my life it would be "Pan's Labyrinth" just because the visuals but it would be "The Orphanage" or "The Devil's Backbone", or maybe "Chronos".

Anyway, because movies are a super luxury, we've not yet seen "Shape of Water". I did have some digital gift card money, so, I bought the novel (the del Toro novel, not to be confused with the 1960's detective novel of the same name....)

So, please no spoilers as I am only an hour into the novel.

SDG gave it a bad review, C-, he and I usually agree so I am trying to decide, to I spend the $$ or wait for it to come out on small screen?

The Catholic News Service classification is L -- limited adult audience, films whose problematic content many adults would find troubling.

Very creepy explicit sexual content.
My adult son and daughter saw it together. They are both very liberal minded. Both of them said that going to see that movie was very disturbing. They were embarrassed and shaken by the content. For them to say that unprompted is very unusual.

I don't see how this movie would not classified as O (morally offensive). The "O" classification is used for (among other things), "[m]ovies that directly contradict scriptural values and church teaching on such matters as euthanasia, abortion, suicide, adultery, homosexual activity or vigilante killing and revenge."

What follows might be a spoiler, read at your own risk.

Quote:
Now what applies to homosexual activity applies a fortiori to bestiality, therefore "The Shape of Water" should have an O classification.
