Unfortunately, Ray Thomas died a few days ago.

What's the rush? They should have been inducted along with the Beatles.

my apologies for not letting you know when the list of inductees was given for this year .. .the R&R hall of fame is a peculiar bird and you just have to scratch your head at some of the inductees .... along with the long list of omissions ... i'm glad the moodies finally made it .... 70 million albums sold worldwide say it's about time

They were not eligible in 1988 when the Beatles were inducted

I'm sure I've heard Moody Blues songs, but I couldn't call one to mind offhand.

'Nights in White Satin' is probably the best known but also famous are 'Tuesday Afternoon' and 'Questions', you may not know the titles, but I can guarantee you that if you heard them you would immediately recognize them even if you didn't know the artist.

Nights In White Satin

Tuesday Afternoon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM8JjT-97i8

Questions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP9iOqdxS8c

'Questions' is best known for its opening line 'Why do we never get an answer, when we're knocking on the door, with a thousand million questions, about hate and death and war?' A line which is often quoted by philosophers of religion in papers devoted to the problem of evil, although the song is really about the Vietnam war, and was never intended to be an argument against the existence of God, even though it has often been interpreted that way.

Nights in White Satin, yes, I know that one now that you mention it. The other two, I have no recollection of. I used to listen to a "classic rock" station sometimes back in the day (WIZN, the Wizard of Rock! in Burlington, VT) so I would guess I must have heard those two songs, but they didn't stick with me.

to truly appreciate "nights in white satin" it would be better to listen to the whole album.... it was the first moodys album i bought... and i purchased #2 (this one) through #9 (seventh sojourn) minus #3 , which i've never heard of

I count #9 as Octave, so what is the numbering that you found?

I googles moody blues album chronology

this list leaves out the one I never heard of but adds one to make days of future passed #3

https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/the_moody_blues

but still leaves seventh sojourn as #9

notice days of future passed is rated as their best album ... gherkin, are you listening...give it a shot!

I don’t dislike the Moody Blues, but they’re not favorites of mine by any stretch of the word. Most of their songs drone on way too long, IMHO. I get bored to tears during the instrumental during “Knights in White Satin”; if I deign to listen to it at all on the radio, I change the station as soon as the instrumental starts. My favorite MB song by far was their last big hit “In Your Wildest Dreams.” “Tuesday Afternoon” would be my second pick, but again, it suffers from a too-long instrumental.

It's funny you should mention progressive rock.... I was listening yesterday to one of those songs that Doom linked to, and I said to myself, "it's almost like Pink Floyd, only without any of the cool stuff."

It's too late for me, my friend. I've given up on rock n roll and mainly listen to bluegrass, acoustic "americana"-type stuff, or classical these days.

Once in awhile I get nostalgic and listen to a rock song or two, but not stuff that's new to me...it's nostalgia, so I only listen to the stuff I listened to back in the day. And that's rare.
