I enjoyed hearing ESPN radio's commercial hyping a 162-game season leading up the wild card game.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children
shout,
But there is no joy in Wrigley—for Almora has struck out.

Cubs watched two different visiting teams celebrate on their home field, on consecutive nights. What a quintessentially Cubs way to go out.

Also, last night's game was the longest winner-take-all game, by innings, in MLB history. Game 7 of the 1924 World Series went 12 innings, as did the 2014 A's/Royals wild card game. :fyi:

If the Braves and Brewers win their respective NLDS, then we will have the former Milwaukee franchise vs. the current one in the NLCS.

Of course by saying that I probably just jinxed it.

Stat that should concern the Red Sox, just shared by my friend Dan (a Sox fan) on Facebook:

Their top four pitchers (Sale, Price, Porcello, Kimbrel) have a combined postseason ERA of 5.26 and a record of 2-13.

My friend Teresa, a Red Sox fan, is dating Jay, a Yankees fan.

Today is Teresa's birthday. Jay surprised her with tickets to Game 2 of the ALDS.

I think the game on Saturday will be the big test of their relationship ..... :)

wow... another never before in the history of the game fact... courtesy of alex bregman.... the ONLY third baseman to record a 30 hr, 100 rbi, 50 2b season.... E.V.E.R!!!!

wonder how close schmidt came to that ... i know, i'll go check 8-)

31 was as close as he got... hmmmm, who else would be a candidate? boggs? here i go again ..... not even close... he only had 50 doubles once in his career... that's kinda surprising to me 24, 89, 40 was as close as he ever got... that was also his tops in hrs and rbis... any other candidates? apparently the 50 doubles is the hardest feat to achieve
