Well, at least the 'Stros are doing better than the Mariners and Nationals, who have a sum total between them of *zero* pennants.

Going to see some college soccer tomorrow night. The WVU men's team is hosting my alma mater, Wright State.

At some point between now and then, I need to run to the store and get a box of large Ziploc bags, because of this :soap: "clear bag" policy that WVU is implementing.

The Nats/'pos were robbed by the strike in 1981. :fyi:

FTFY

The Expos actually made the playoffs in '81 and were one win away from the World Series when "Blue Monday" happened.

If any team was robbed by the '81 strike, it was the Cincinnati Reds. They had the best overall record in the NL East, but with the split season, they finished short of first place in both halves, and watched the playoffs on TV.

In '94, the Expos had the best record in the majors when the strike hit.

The same thing happened to the Cards in the West in 1981.

SR, I can personally vouch for the quality of products from this site: http://www.myclearbackpack.com/ Don't be fooled by the name; I've owned one of their clear insulated lunch coolers for five or six years now, and it's still like new. They've got all sizes and shapes of clear bags/totes there.

Or, all things considered, you might prefer this. http://bookexchangewv.com/wvu-clear-cro ... rryall-bag

Thanks. I actually found I had a supply of gallon-size Ziplocs at home, so I've got one to use for tonight. I'll perhaps stop by Book Exchange this weekend to pick up one of those totes.

It would be bad optics to be rooting for the visitors while carrying a WVU tote ... ::):

(This will be my second time going to a WVU sporting event in Morgantown where Wright State is the visiting team. 99% of the time I root for WVU, but when the Raiders come to town, I gotta be true to my school .... :) )

At the soccer game. WVU scored in the 5th minute and leads 1-0.

Two shots, two scores for the Mountaineers.

Wright State gets on the board with a penalty kick. Score is 2-1 WVU.

Stoppage in play because one of the refs got hit in the head with the ball.

In the 82nd minute, WVU gets an insurance goal. It's 3-1.

WVU just scored again. 4-1. That pretty much seals it.

WVU and Wright State had another soccer match yesterday evening, this time on the women's side. I didn't go, but I pulled up the game report this morning on wvusports.com. The Mountaineers won 2-0, and not only held Wright State scoreless, but didn't even allow them to have a shot on goal or a corner kick.

The WVU men, meanwhile, played to a 0-0 tie with Monmouth.

TBH, Friday's match might have cured me of that. Though it probably didn't help that it was unseasonably cold for September 1st, and I was shivering (even with a sweater) for most of the match.
