Actually, many of the teams are sponsored by, and named after, Major League Baseball franchises. :fyi:

Edit: Hey fs, the Yankees have a team in the tournament. They're the #11 seed (out of 20). The #20 seed is a team from Ghana.

By the way, this event will be held "in the shadow" of the Texas Rangers' home ballpark. I presume that means the parking lot - wheelchair softball is played on a hard surface. (The chairs don't zoom very well on grass/dirt :fyi: )

MLB teams sponsoring teams in the Wheelchair Softball World Series, along with their seedings:

Minnesota Twins - #2
Chicago Cubs - #4
Cincinnati Reds (I presume - the wheelchair team is the Columbus Reds) - #6
Texas Rangers - #10
New York Yankees - #11
San Francisco Giants - #12
Houston Astros - #16
Chicago White Sox - #17

There are also the West Michigan Rollin' Whitecaps at #13, who I presume are sponsored by the W. Michigan Whitecaps, the Tigers' single-A affiliate. So, go Whitecaps, I guess.

japan needs a run to get the 10 run rule in effect against the canucks

tonight's game might be worth a look... north carolina is looking for their 3rd no hitter in a row... going up against the texas stud who has gone 16.1 innings with 30ks

japan got the run... they have played 3 games without an error and have given up one run ... typical for a japanese team... always fundamentally sound

texas blinked first...1st baseman choked and threw wild to home on a dribbler he caught clean in the bottom of the 7th... north carolina wins 2-1 and advances to the usa championship game on saturday ... texas plays connecticut to see who will play nc

Some scores of note:
The Columbus Reds destroyed the New York Yankees, 13-0. Sorry fs :P
However, the tournament is double elimination. The Yankees followed up by beating the Kansas City Diamonds, 6-2. Yankees face Japan next.

The Reds followed their win over the Yankees by upsetting the #3 seeded Minnesota Flame Throwers, 12-2.

The top seeded and defending champions Nebraska Barons breezed through their first two games, beating the White Sox 12-0 and the National Wheelcats 11-1.

The second seeded Minnesota Rolling Twins also had it easy, with a 17-1 win over the Shepherd Sluggers and a 14-4 decision over the Deep South Hurricanes.

the texas kids are handling the connecticut kids pretty well...unless they score at least one in the top of the fourth, game's over... right now it's 12-2 ... looks like we get a rematch with the tar heel team on saturday

I think you may be on to something there. Just looked up a Facebook post from 2015, when the Barons won their 9th title in 13 years up to that point. I believe they won last year too.

it's good to be a dynasty... wish we could be that again... problem being, that would also go against my allegiance to the 'stros, so i can no longer wish for yankee dominion .... damn crane and his cronies for caving and moving us to the american league :verymad:

The 'Stros have a lot of catching up to do, though. One pennant, and no WS wins, in what, 55 seasons?
