Independent baseball news ....

The Frontier League is adding 5 teams from the Can-Am League, to field a 14-team league in 2020.

The math works out because both the Frontier and the Can-Am League lost a team after this past season. The River City Rascals, who announced in August they were folding, went out on top as Frontier League champions. The Can-Am's Ottawa Champions had their stadium lease terminated.

The 5 Can-Am teams will join 2 existing teams from the Frontier League to form a "Can-Am Division". The other 7 teams will form the Midwestern Division. My local Frontier League team, the Washington (Pa.) Wild Things, will be in the Can-Am Division.

In the press conference this morning it was stated the league hopes to expand to 20 teams within a few years.

My cousin Megan has mentioned to me the possibility of going to a Pistons game, when (if) I go up to Detroit for Christmas. They're playing at home the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's, IIRC. I haven't yet visited Little Caesars Arena.

There is also a pro basketball team in Windsor, across the river, that plays in the National Basketball League of Canada. Would like to maybe get to one of their games.

I have never seen a pro basketball game live…. unless you count the globetrotters game I saw as a kid...

I have seen exactly one pro hockey game... though it was minor league... some guys named howe were on the team...I was told they were a pretty big deal 8-)

We have a couple of minor league basketball teams around here ... part of the "revived" American Basketball Association founded in 1999 ... there are the West Virginia Warlocks, I believe they play down in Fairmont, about 30 minutes south of me ... and up in Pittsburgh, the Steel City Yellow Jackets, who are - get this - coached by Ace, one of my former wheelchair basketball teammates from the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers! I really should get up to see them play sometime ... Ace has invited me, I just need to accept ...

The Wright State women's volleyball team snapped a 3-match losing streak last night with a win at Northern Kentucky.

From the revived ABA (American Basketball Association) .... which has been around since I think 1999 or 2000 .... Pittsburgh's team the Steel City Yellow Jackets is coached by my former wheelchair basketball teammate Ace.

Last night they won 226-77.

I gotta get up to see these guys play sometime.

Went to the Yellow Jackets' game tonight against the Philly Raiders... it was close for three quarters, and then Steel City turned on the gas and won going away ... 132-107 the final ... exciting game, lots of physical play ... and a couple of Sportscenter worthy highlights
