Spurs defeat the Lakers. Tough luck LeBron. Always glad when LeBron loses, especially when it's to the Spurs.

Fr. Kenobi: Look away. Soccer warning.

The man hailed as the "youngest goal scorer" in the history of the Indian Super League ... isn't. He's been suspended for lying about his age. He's actually 28, not 16 as he claimed.

If at first you don't succeed, try again ....

About 10 years ago, I went to an "Arena League style" football game (i.e. 50 yard field, midfield is the 25 yard line) at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV, with Lisa, a fellow sports fan I met through CatholicMatch. This was our third "date", though she soon after met another guy and wound up marrying him. She and I are still friends though. But I digress ... the home team was called the Wheeling Wildcats and they basically sucked. The visiting team ran up the score in the first half. Wildcats tried to come back in the second half but fell short. The National Anthem singer before the game was also terrible.

The Wildcats only lasted one season, so my Wildcats hat (which I believe is still kicking around in my hat box at home) is a collector's item.

Now, WesBanco Arena is making another go at Arena-style football. This time, with a team that has had some recent success. The Richmond Roughriders won the Arena Pro Football championship in 2017. Now, they will be known as the West Virginia Roughriders, and play in the American Arena League.

but since lbj didn't play (i'm guessing) , then he actually didn't "lose" ... his team lost, but he wasn't there to be a part of the loss  8-)

Turned on a Mexican winter league baseball game on ESPN 3. The uniforms for both teams are covered in ads. The home team doesn't even have numbers on the back of their uniforms - just ads! (The uniform number is on the left sleeve.)

if the beard can score 97 points in his last two games in january, he will be only the 2nd player in history to average 45 points (i think that's the number... might be 40  ) for an entire month ... surprised jordan or kobe didn't accomplish that feat

he "only" had 35 last night against the raptors... leonard and green shut him down pretty well

I already posted in the March Madness thread that Alabama won both the men's and women's collegiate wheelchair basketball championships on Saturday.

This morning, the Toronto Rollin' Raptors won the NWBA Adult Division II championship. Not sure if a team from Canada has won before ...

I actually thought about going to the Division II tournament as a spectator, since they were being played near Cleveland, only about 4 hours from me ... but I had second thoughts when I found out the title game was being played on SUNDAY MORNING. Seriously, who schedules these? Do they take into account any Christians that may be on the teams?

This weekend the NWBA Adult Division I championship was claimed by the New York Rollin' Knicks. At least their second championship this decade (they also won in 2014) .... they're doing better than the NBA Knicks

Just checked the Rollin' Knicks' Facebook page ... they won it all last year too. So this makes back-to-back championships, and three since 2014, which was their first title.

GM Hikaru Nakamura is your new U.S. Chess Champion, breaking a three-way tie on the final day of the tournament with black pieces, playing the Dutch Defense, a somewhat unusual opening at that level that resulted in a fighting game. I personally was rooting for GM Sam Shankland to defend his title.

mr westbrook achieved what only one man in the history of the game had done before.... he didn't just triple double, he went 20,20,20 for the first time since the most venerated offensive force of all time did it... don't care if he was in there "stat hunting"... the fact of the matter is he did it, and now shares rarefied air .... and oh joy, it's looking like we'll be playing them in the first round of the playoffs
