I've made this a topic before and it generates a pretty good discussion, so I figured I'd post it on here. Which saint-priest (I guess I'll let Fulton Sheen be included!) would you want to hear your confession?

Padre Pio

If I forgot anything, he could fill it in for me.

He was my pick too! St. John Vianney is a popular choice.

My wish is for someone who's still alive, but too frail to be a confessor anymore. Msgr. Joseph Deane is originally from Ireland and celebrated his 65th year in the priesthood this year. He heard my confession at a CHRP retreat 4 years ago. He was spiritual director for the diocesan Comitium of the Legion of Mary. What I'd give for him to hear my confession once more, and for me to hear just one more homily from him. *sigh*

Padre Pio. In a heart beat. He'd sure make me feel guilty, though. :).

And St. John Vianney. He'd probably have me doing all sorts of things for penance.

Padre Pio....

If he wasn't available, St. John Paul II

or Fr. Benedict Groeschel

Any one who, like Padre Pio, could read my heart and call b*****t on my confession and make me weep for sorrow.

There is a website that details people's experience in confession with Padre Pio. Have you all read it?

He's not a canonized saint and I wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm mixed up about it: Fr. Vincent Capodanno, the grunt padre, came second to mind. First was our own Fr. Obiwan because I missed the "saint" part. When I went back to re-read, I thought of Fr. Capodanno. If I were to go to honest-to-goodness canonized saints, I'd probably ask for St. Dominic or St. Benedict.

But really, I've got such fantastic priests in my parish, I am grateful for them in the extreme. God has been merciful to us when it comes to confessors as well as priests who can teach from the pulpit. They are good men and I am happy to be under their care.
