Has anyone here read it? Fr. Z makes mention of it, and it sounds like a good story. Is the original translation too "stuffy" (I saw that there was a version in modern English)?

I read it, many years ago, in the Ballentine Adult Fantasy series. I recall little of it, but I do recall enjoying it. The original "medievalism" of the language bothered me not at all.
