...and I have read the entire publication. The articles for the most part, are written in a tone against the Church and the teachings of the Church. There was an article that criticized the Holy Father along with a handful of other matters of faith for the Church. This newspaper does no service to the Church, and it only aids to further divide Catholics.

The reporter isn't just liberal, it is flaming liberal. I thought it maybe hidden and subtle, but that wasn't the case at all.

hehehe… Yeah, it is pretty awe-striking when you first see it isn't it! I was flabbergasted!

I think the bishops need to file a lawsuit and claim "Protection of brand name."

In other words, to use the description "Catholic" in any business, school, or other venture, you must actually be promoting the brand.......i.e., orthodox Catholicism.

I'd like to see just a lawsuit and see where it goes.

In one article, the writer was commenting an address by the Holy Father and states "what the Pope fails to see is..." And granted, I am all for constructive criticism but later on an argument for the sisters to become apart of the priesthood, contraceptives, gays marrying...

I loved what I saw another poster in here call it: National Catholic Distorter

:D

(That's now how I remeber the difference between it and the NC Register)

You learn something new everyday. After I received the trial copy in the mail, I thought that I would give the publication a fair shake and see what it was all about. I now know the difference.

It would go nowhere, the Catholic bishops cannot claim a trademark on the word 'Catholic; the word has been in use for 2,000 years and is used to describe many different religious bodies.

The National catholic Reporter (or as Fr. Z calls it the National catholic Fishwrap) is good for little more than lining the bird cage.

Has the National Catholic Reporter always been like this?

Pretty much, yes. It was founded in 1964 and was rebuked publicly by its bishop in 1967. He asked it to stop calling itself "Catholic" in 1968. They ignored him and have been merrily ignoring the authority of the Church ever since.

What a history! I'm glad that the only issue I received from them was a trial issue and not a subscription. The first thing that I noticed when I put the Reporter and Register next to each other was the advertisements in each. You see EWTN and Marcus Grodi and Franciscan University in the Register but not in the Reporter, that is one of the first things that I noticed right away.

Well, it was a lame attempt at a joke indicating that the paper is about as poisonous and noxious piece of trash as there is but I guess it failed.
