Using the National Catholic Reporter as a bird cage liner seems wrong, what is the point of piling **** on top of ****?

Yes, it seems very unsanitary!

Quit harping on the Reporter, we have already established it can be used to aid the start of fire.

There was a pile of them this weekend in our parish pamphlet holder. I saw them when we were going back up to our seats in the choir loft after Communion.

We meant to grab the whole lot to throw in the garbage but forgot.

I used to do that with the Onion. I thought, if I can take a few extra, those are extra that won't find their way into the hands of kids.

The National Catholic Reporter should be printed in Egyptian hieroglyphics.

I just wanted to make it unreadable. Who would want to read the Reporter?

This may sound odd, but I think that I am going to subscribe to both the Register and Reporter.

My first reason is that I want to stay informed with what, unfortunately many 'Catholics' seem to believe about their faith and Church. I don't want to keep a blind eye to the stories that are happening across the country and the world.

My second reason is that it will help me deepen my faith because it will force me to always analyze and evaluate the Church's teachings.

My third reason is that in order to remain a strong Catholic it is important to know what NOT to believe and to see it confidently displayed in an article. I will also be able to look back historically and see how it was reported, at least from these two sources.

You can read heretical stuff online for free and not have to give them a penny of your hard earned money.

I will do that if they have their articles on-line.

Another thought, I don't have to keep up with what is going on in the world of satan worship or pornography in order to teach my son or my students that those things are sinful.

Remember what we are commanded in Scripture "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

You're correct. But this directly involves what is happening among the faithful and this is different, but I understand what you are saying and your thought is taken well.

There's an old story that might or might not be true, but it has a good point. As the story goes, the RCMP anti-counterfeiting unit never shows trainees false bills. They study only the real thing so that they will never get confused about what the real thing is.

Unless you have a professional reason to study modern dissent (and I don't see how you do), why expose your mind to falsehoods?

True. However, a recent article spoke negatively of the Christian definition of marriage as a sacrament citing history in which it wasn't recognized as a Sacrament until the 1100s. This is information that I can check to verify and by my working to verify it I can learn about my faith. As a recent convert, I know that I have a tremendous more to learn.
