ROUND TWO
Girls' Duet - Swings? Are you kidding me? They sound a little off. Hollie's voice is somewhat suited to this song, but not Jessica's. Ooof, more than a little off.

Surprise Quartet - Meh, not sure what the point of that was.

Philip - this song works for him. First time I heard it was on youtube just before the show. The original version is prettier, but it was a good performance for P2.

Holly - Ok, but not great. Again, so much of it is in her lower register where her voices is kind of plain. Golly, R-Yo was actually right about song choice!

Joshua - Melinda Doolittle must be jumping around in her living room, no? That one deserved a standing O. Loved it. It's amazing to me how much intensity and maturity he puts into his songs, when you can tell by his interactions with others on the show that he's not nearly that intense or mature. Transformation is right.

Jessica - Also a great job. She is really connecting. I loved that she looked totally ticked off at the audience when she was singing it. Good for her. The Standing O looked a little forced don'tchya think?

The judges have clearly chosen their final 3. I would like to see Philip go. But him going home is the only outcome that would surprise me. I would not be shocked if Jessica or Joshua left. Not because of performance, but because of voting patterns.

I didn't watch the second half. The show was too boring to stick with. My grades for round 1:

Phillip: B- Could have been worse.
Hollie: B- That was a dumb choice. There's nothing to the song except those last few notes.
Joshua: B He sounded good, but what a dull song.
Jessica: B- Again, very dull

Both duets were pretty awful. I saw a bit of the quartet thingy, which was also awful.

And I did see Joshua's Man's World, which was an A.

It turns out that I've lost interest in the show. I didn't realize that until last night.

I agree. To me, it seems like anyone but Phillip could go tonight. But I'm sticking with my most recent final two prediction: Phillip and Joshua.

i haven't watched the 2nd half yet... how did joshua's "it's a man's world" compare to juliet simms' version that i linked to on the previous page...i thought his "you raise me up" was inferior to that of chris mann's

so is everyone pretty much in agreement we will be seeing an end to "even hollie"'s journey tonight? (except for gherkin of course :P )

ew readers vote for best of the night

Phillip Phillips 11.95%

Hollie Cavanagh 6.77%

Joshua Ledet 21.63%

Jessica Sanchez 59.66%

course they also voted for juliet simms to win the voice...so their track record ain't so good

and the burning question of the night...what exactly is a "joe kinda cocker" quality anyway... or is jlo getting dyslexic in her age old? :laughhard

I'm not so sure. I think it would be a sensible cut for her to go, but I would not be surprised at all to see Joshua go. I think that MJ's big blog is a much better indicator of the average voter than either EW or TV Line. If you were to kick people out based on the comments and voting of Slezak's and Annie's followers, you'd get a pretty different result than what we have now. MJ's readers seem to be younger, and I suspect, more reflective of the "average voter."

The results of her "favorite contestant" poll are:
Philip - 24.15%
Hollie - 22.87
Joshua - 15.93
Jessica - 37.04

Then again, you also have to consider who might be most motivated to vote for their favorites. Holly might get some frantic sympathy votes based on being bussed. I would think that Joshua's second performance would get him some enthusiastic votes, but maybe his poor performance on the first song is enough - and MAYBE enough people were bored after 1 hour, that they didn't really pay attention to round 2.

I think Juliet was better in the 1st half of the song, but Joshua clobbered her in the 2nd half. If you watch MJ's video, the 45 seconds between ~1:30 and ~2:15 are what really win it for him. I could watch that segment over and over, if it didn't make me think all the repetition was hurting his voice :P .

An observation on Jimmy's critiques. For both Joshua and Jessica, he spoke specifically about the album he was going to make with them. I don't remember if he said anything about Philip's album, but he sure didn't with Holly.

you could tell p2 was a little torqued that ryan threw it to commercial instead of announcing who was safe

Phew, ok. I was really worried for Joshua. I'd be disappointed that Philip made it beyond Holly, but last week, it became perfectly clear that he is going all the way. So who do you think will get Holly's votes? If you believe the polls, Jessica is ahead of Joshua.

I don't think I will be able to make it through the next show. I'm rooting for Phillip only because he is a Georgia boy. He's grown on me a little bit, and he can at least keep my attention. The other two, Jessica and Joshua, are so boring that I'm daydreaming or literally sleeping during their performances. So... I suspect that maybe if Philip goes first, I'll see something next show.
