skylar, phillip and jessica to sing the righteous brothers...joshua and hollie to sing jackie wilson... that's my guess...whattaya thunk?

will this week be hollie's week or has she got some momentum and we'll have a shock boot early?

I like your guesses, FS. I don't have a clue. Except that I can't picture Joshua doing You are so beautiful - maybe Jessica or Skylar, but I'd bet Philip.

Ok, after reviewing them, I see these possibilities:

You don't have to say you love me - Hollie
To love somebody - Joshua
Bleeding love - Jessica
Time of the season - Philip (it does mention "yo daddy" after all)
You are so beautiful - Skylar

Aint to proud to beg - Joshua or Jessica
Proud Mary - Jessica (or Joshua)
The letter - Philip (or Skylar)
Fortunate Son - Skylar (or Philip)
River Deep, Mountain High - Hollie

Ok, let's hear who's been sick this week! (no I haven't forgotten about Ryan sharing the gift that keeps on giving last week)

ROUND ONE
Holly - I guessed it right. :) Pretty nice job, but her voice isn't made to go that low. Yikes, first on the program - kiss of death.

Philip - Not bad. I liked it more than I've liked many of his.

Skylar - Pretty nice. Standard Skylar, which is a compliment. I'm getting tired of Jennifer's obsession with Skylar's energy. I don't think she ever talks about her actual voice.

The boys' duet - I was NOT looking forward to this. I'm glad to see they agree, but I don't get the point of all the "sexual tension" on THIS song. Haven't they ever seen Top Gun??? ;) Their voices just didn't go well together for most of the song. The last part, with Joshua wailing, was good.

Jessica - What's the deal with Jessica always getting the weird stage props? She did nail it though. J.Lo - "everybody knows I was a big fan of Elise" :)!

Joshua - Also nailed it.

Patting myself on the back for getting all the picks right...

but not the british picks... though i guess you could still get 4 out of 5

ROUND TWO
Hollie - I don't like the song and I don't think Hollie's voice works with that sort of song either. At the end, she sounded good, but her voice dropped off too many times through the rest of it.

Philip - I really liked that he sang this quieter, and went into his falsetto. I don't think his pitch was great up there, but at lest it was something different than his usual fare for once. He tends to slide up and not always quite reach the note. I noticed he pulled an earpiece out - wonder how that affected his pitch. I don't really understand how the earpieces work. I LOVE that Randy is announcing that now, in the top 6, the judges are JUST learning that Phil doesn't go off melody by mistake, but that he actually can hit notes. Gee, that seems like something worth learning before picking him as your "can do no wrong" boy.

Girls' Trio - I'm guessing this will be better than the boys...and it was, except that it's a boring, boring song.

Skylar - I didn't love the very end, but I loved the rest of the song. I really would've liked to hear the full length version, in fact, I might actually consider buying the studio version of this song (which I haven't done yet this year). This is one of my favorite ballads of the season.

Jessica - Perfect. Even with the ridiculous candles. I'm surprised they didn't stand for that. This was better than I will Always Love You, because it didn't sound like a copycat.

Joshua - Really great. Loved it. They're complimenting him TOO much. Let's not make the guy think he's the second coming, kay?

Oh well, only 2 out of 5 this time. I guess I know the boys better than the girls.

Ok, I'm a wacky homeschooler, who doesn't even like to use the traditional grades on my kids, so I'm not gonna do it here either. Instead I'll rank them:
Round One
(with very little space in between all of them b/c they're so good)
1-Joshua
2-Jessica
3-Skylar
4-Hollie
5-Philip

Round Two
1-Joshua & Jessica
2-Skylar
3-
4-Hollie
5-Philip

Average
Joshua - 1
Jessica - 1.5
Skylar - 2.5
Hollie - 4
Philip - 5

Overall, a really well done show. A relief, since I was really sad not to hear Elise sing today.
Philip won't go home. Hollie will.

My grades:

First set:
Hollie: A
Philip: C
Skylar: B-
Jessica: B
Joshua: A

Second set:
Hollie: A+
Philip: D-
Skylar: A-
Jessica: B+
Joshua: A

Hollie's the big winner tonight, followed closely by Joshua.

I'm not yet ready to make my bottom 3 predictions. But I'm afraid that whatever happens, Hollie will be in there.

Interesting. I'm surprised to see Phillip so low, although as you can tell from the grades I gave him, I think he richly deserves to go home, based on last night's performances. I was thinking the bottom three this week would have to be Hollie, Jessica and Phillip. It would be a real shame if Joshua was down there, but on the other hand, he wasn't as good as Hollie, so I guess I'd rather see him than her. But, of course, they were both better than Skylar last night. Hm.

Those who've been following the dial idol thing: have they been fairly accurate this year?

Not perfect, but not too bad either. Starting with the top 13, they declared Joshua in the top 4, but then he ended up in either 5th or 6th place. But they haven't declared anyone safe who has then gone home. One could say that they're "right" so much because they rarely declare anyone safe, and usually stick everyone, or almost everyone in the yellow danger zone. However, of the top 13 shows, exactly half of them have resulted in the person Dial Idol listed at the very bottom of their list as the one who went home. That's actually not bad. So I would put Phillip's odds of going home at 50/50. Also, aside from the top 13 and top 11, every other ousted contestant was listed as one of the bottom 3 people on DI's list. So that bodes well for Hollie.

their biggest faux pax was for the boys at the top 24 (or was it 25  ) 3 of the 4 boys they had declared safe did not make the final 13... and the 4th that they declared safe was jermaine...the guy who was disqualified a week later

last week they had hollie as definitely safe...and yet she was bottom 2... but technically, since she didn't go home, they were "right"

They were right, because they said she could be anywhere from 1st to 5th place. And she was either 4th or 5th place (I don't think they specified that Skylar WASN'T bottom two just because they sent her back to the couch before Hollie, did they?).
