:) .... man, all of you should watch the 1950 version of the movie just for that scene. If someone can find a link it would be worth it.

And just that scene...the rest of the movie is a bit disappointing (in part because it really doesn't have a plot)

ETA: Unless you watch it in conjunction with the sequel, Belles on their toes (I think?) which is the family after the father died...and it explains the absence of the 2nd oldest daughter, who died young...it is a true story after all (unlike the movie of the same name in 2003 which has nothing to do at all with the original other than title and number of kids)

Love the movie, both of them. A really fascinating family. None of the children went on to have large families though. Two of the youngest children were in the same assisted living facility with my grandfather-the youngest son was actually one of Ggpa's dinner buddies. :D Sadly, I never had a chance to meet any of them before they passed away.

I love that scene and the rest of the movie. Years ago I learned my grandfather on my dad's side was an efficency engineer as well, so it was fun to see in the movie.

but unlike the movie, my dad was an only child.

I wonder why these folks never had large families.....
I always wondered if they were Caths, tho everyone was probably having large fams back when

They were Catholic. IIRC, that scene really happened to them.

We love that scene as well- which is so entirely different than the opening to the new CBtD in which he gets a vasectomy!

I loved the movies, but it was one of those cases where I loved the books even better!
