I was in CC last week, my wife is from there and my parents met there while my dad was in the navy. CC is kind of a love it or hate it type place. Slower pace, no traffic jams, hot, humid, and windy most of the time, more catholic than a lot of Texas because of the Hispanic, Czech, and German Bavarian influence, cheaper cost of living than much of Texas and the nation, Fishing is great, the beach is nearby. It is not a glitzy or pretentious place like Dallas.
My nephew said this week as a tropical storm hit nearby; " 40 mph winds, sideways rain, 90% humidity, and 85F temp. = BBQ Time!!! You have to deal with tropical storms and hurricanes, but it only snows once every 15 or 20 years or so.
My in-laws all live in Flour Bluff near the NAS. It is not a bad place to be stationed, and it is Texas after all. And God's country, the Texas Hill Country is just a 3 hour drive. My wife wants to move back to Flour Bluff but there isn't much work for me there right now.
My experience with churches there is limited to:
When I was there visiting my grandparents my family went to
http://www.mahpro.com/sscm.html/It was pretty orthodox at the time and we have Czech ancestry which fits in with the church patrons.
Nowdays I go to
http://www.stpaultheapostlecc.org/ because it is 2 blocks from my SiL. If I lived there I would probably not attend this one regularly.
There are a number of other Catholic churches in the area which I have never attended including a chapel at the NAS.
