The British before the War were trying to make Ohio, Michigan and Indiana a "neutral" (i.e. sock puppet) Indian nation, something they demanded even at the peace conference but America took control of Western Ontario and that gave us control over the region...so that area would have likely been lost without the war. Other than that every major invasion, British to New York and New Orleans, and American's to Canada were failures...you defense won all the way around

Tactically it may have been but it was a clear strategic victory for us. The British abandoned any hope of destroying the Yankee republic and getting her American colonies back, particularly after New Orleans.

The Battle of Stoney Creek.

The Battle of Queeston Heights.

The Battle of Kingston.

It was like swatting flies.

I could say the same about New Orleans...where we had 333 causalities and the British 2459...wow they really sucked at that Battle, hey?

But of course this revisionist Canadian history arises out of Canadian ire when Britain conceded too much (in their eyes) to the US in the 54 40 border dispute. Remember Canada was not a country, so this retro history is a way of inflating national pride anachronistically. If they ignore the actual causes and stated goals of the War they can fancy that the war was the US trying to take over Canada and that they thereby defended their homeland...a bunch of hooey in reality, since that was not the aim of the war as in its declaration nor involved in its cause, and we in fact did gain some modest, but important, territory from it

That investigation should not be interfered with by Mexican troops.

Lucky for the Mexican troops we have a liberal in the WH that wont authorize return fire without higher approval.

IMO, our troops should have the right to return fire, call in air assistance and feel quite secure about investigating alleged crimes on OUR soil.

This. I think an MQ-9 Reaper orbiting around out there would do quite the psycological trick

What did we lose? Nothing. We gained some territory and a bunch of pride.

It's not their job to investigate themselves. Since the young man died in Mexico, it is Mexico's job to investigate, even if that means crossing the border to gather evidence or interviewing men on the U.S border patrol. But of course we're the U.S. so we'll do what we want and tell Mexico what we found out later.

And you think we should do differently? We are harder on ourselves than we are on anyone else.
