Is Scott Hahn’s, Bergsma’s, and Jeff Cavins’ covenantal approach to studying the Bible...Catholic? Sincere question. I don’t know the answer.

What leads you to question it? (That's an honest question.) I've never been a fan, or at least I think it can be over-applied, but I can't think of anything that makes me think it's out of bounds.

I very briefly looked up covenantal theology or a covenantal study of Scripture and as far as I saw, it seemed to be rooted in Protestantism. I know one website said it was a Calvinist approach. That, and I know that they used to be Protestant.

I don’t see anything wrong with this approach. I just want to confirm that it can be considered Catholic, and that this wasn’t something they needed to let go of after converting.

I actually very much enjoy this comprehensive covenantal approach, especially in better understanding the “New Testament in My Blood”/the Eucharist.

Why would they have to give up a New Testament term just because Calvinists also hold to it? Should Catholic reject predestination, too?

I think the whole "covenant" thing is overwrought , especially with statements (not by Hahn mind you) like "marriage is not a contract but a covenant!" To some degree people often attack new meaning and insight because a different word is used, without actually explaining much.

But that is just the popular reception at times. But even with a more thoughtful use (as Hahn actually has), I think it is overwrought as a hermeneutic.

But, whatever my crticisms, that would not make it unCatholic. Maybe incomplete, but not outside the bounds, not without fruit.

But as a lens to read everything, I think it fair to consider it as eccentric in every meaning of that word

No where did I say they should give up a “term”; but an approach, if the approach was incompatible with a Catholic approach, or was inaccurate, misleading, or exaggerated in anyway. Hence my question.

I concur with PED's analysis, for whatever that may be worth.
