I found this passage in St. Augustine's "City of God" that really struct me:

St. Augustine wrote:
The soul is so connected to the body that it succumbs to great pain and withdraws; for the structure of our members and vital parts is so infirm that it cannot bear up against that violence which causes great or extreme agony. But in the life to come this connection of soul and body is such a kind, that as it is dissolved be no lapse of time, so neither is it burst asunder by pain....Death will be eternal, since the soul will neither be able to enjoy God and live, nor die and escape the pains of the body. The first death drives the soul from the body against his/her will; the second death holds the soul in the body against his/her will.
-"City of God", bk 21, chpt 3

Is this view of human nature after the resurrection commonly accepted by the Church or is something singular to Augustine?

I'm not sure what your question is. The Resurrection of the Body is a doctrine of the Church, going all the way back to the early creeds.

I'm not questioning the Resurrection of the body so much as the qualities that our Resurrected bodies will have.

I guess I'm wondering if the qualities that Augustine describes in the passage are qualities that the Church commonly holds as accepted?

What qualities? I'm not being obdurate--I just don't see what question you're asking.

That our nature will be such that no amount of pain or violence will be sufficient to separate our soul from our body. That rather our souls will be kept within our bodies against our will.

Ok.

I was just wondering because that's not something that I don't think I ever heard explained in such a way in all my years.

And I'm not suggesting that something as low as mere practicality should negate or take away from the ultimate good of having the beatific vision- it just seems to me that, keeping in mind those ends that the Resurrection is an objective reality, that to not spend as much time and effort as possible preparing your soul for that end would border on insanity.

At the General Resurrection, body and soul are irreversibly reunited.
