for debate purposes only:

a catholic "alleged" apparition in Argentina stated, inter alia:

[something to the effect that there would be "rioting" or "turmoil" in the USA
in 2017]

I believe the local bishop approved this apparition but I'm not 100% sure;
in any event, let's presume it is "not approved"----
with respect to the prediction:

what do people think is coming to the USA in 2017??

its not hard (without any supernatural intervention) to believe that
there will be turmoil in the USA in 2017;

anyone else concur? if so, why do you believe for or against this prediction? :|

There has been 'rioting and turmoil in the USA' since 2015, and I see no indication why it is going to stop anytime soon.

Predicting riot and turmoil in the USA these days is like predicting that you'll find dried grapes in a box of Raisin Bran. :nooo:

I am not sure why turmoil and riots in the US would be considered a prediction for 2017.

wonder if the protests by the left on inauguration day will turn into riots... probably not...at least for the "elites" ... they won't want to get their lily white hands (or noses) bloodied

one thing for sure... an alleged seer is going down by friday...as he was "assured" that the person elected to the presidency will NOT take office ... let me go look to find the entirety of the "revelation" that's about to go up in flames

well that was pretty much it... this individual has a lot more to say , but this is the most immediate "confirmable" allegation

Quote:
emphatically stated that President Obama will not complete his 2nd term as President, and that the next leader will NOT come from the normal political process. He stated that while it is possible that there could be an election, whoever the person that will be nominated will not be sworn in on January 20, 2017.

someone mentioned about the prediction by Charlie Johnston that Obama will not leave office on 1-20-17.
Johnston says that if his prophecy fails, "I will go away."
I guess that means he'll leave the hobby of issuing prophecies.

I've studied Johnston for quite a long time. IMHO, the "inner locutions" he claims
he receives are inconsistent with messages received by saints, etc.

A lot of his messages contain wording that sounds a lot like American street talk and
not like something supernatural. He uses "idioms" and "phraseology" that are
specific to American common talk. I've not seen any valid "predictions" where
that kind of language was used.

Another "prophet" who uses American "idioms" and "phraseology" is Ned Dougherty.
However, I've not seen Mr. Dougherty predict anything specific.

That is to say, he never gives a date, time, or specific event that will occur. Thus,
you can't ever validate his lengthy messages.

My personal opinion, with all due respect, is that neither Mssrs Johnston or Dougherty
receives anything "supernatural". :?

I believe they may be very holy people. I just don't believe their messages come
from heaven. :nooo:

yep, you really put your neck in the noose when you make a specific prediction that will happen by a specific time... it appears charlie has gone out on that limb , the limb has cracked, and he has hung himself ... but then, the inauguration has not taken place yet

I recommend "Prophesies of Godlessness: Predictions of America's Imminent Secularization from the Puritans to the Present Day."

Synopsis from Amazon.com/books:

"Prophesies of Godlessness explores the surprisingly similar expectations of religious and moral change voiced by major American thinkers from the time of the Puritans to today. These predictions of "godlessness" in American society -- sometimes by those favoring the foreseen future, sometimes by those fearing it -- have a history as old as America, and indeed seem crucially intertwined with it.

"This book shows that there have been and continue to be patterns to these prophesies. They determine how some people perceive and analyze America's prospective moral and religious future, how they express themselves, and powerfully affect how others hear them. While these patterns have taken a sinuous and at times subterranean route to the present, when we think about the future of America we are thinking about that future largely with terms and expectations first laid out by past generations, some stemming back before the very foundations of the United States. Even contemporary atheists and those who predict optimistic techno-utopias rely on scripts that are deeply rooted in the American past..."

And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?’—when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him. (ESV)

Well, there you go. He was wrong. Obama has left the office and Donald Trump is now president.

pretty sure no one in this thread put any credence in that "prophecy"

But who knows who's reading along who could benefit from the lesson?

Yes, but you didn't explicitly say that the prediction had been disproven, though I suppose that one could infer that intent. It wasn't clear to me whether you had posted that before or after the inauguration had taken place.

I deliberately waited until Trump had taken the oath of office.

I'm guessing that CNN is almost as bummed as Johnston is right about now.... ::):

The time stamp on posts never seems to be correct for me, I don't know if I have it set to the wrong time zone or what.

You might have "Daylight Savings Time" still in place. Check your User Control Panel to see if it's on. If so, turn it off. :fyi:

ETA: Look under "Board Preferences" in the User Control Panel.
