I am not sure if this is where I need to post. I have searched the net with not luck. I have a St. Barbara pendant that my mother gave me some time ago. She has a larger version and gave me a smaller one. She also has a beautiful St. Barbara bracelet that my father had a smaller sized one made for me in 1997. I am not catholic, although my paternal grandfather was, so I myself do not know much about the Saints.

My question is this, most medallions I have seen are gold or silver and that is it. Both of my medallions have a ruby above the chalice that St. Barbara is holding in her left hand. What is the significance of that, if any at all? Most I have seen do not have any stones in them and are there other saints that have them on their medallions as well?

Here is some information on St. Barbara

The ruby most likely symbolizes the blood of Christ.

If I am wrong, please correct me.
