 Post subject: Gods will in heaven

If the only will in Heaven is Gods, then how was Satan able to rebel? DId he have free will like us?

It is generally held that satan did not have the Beatific Vision before the fall. Yes he had free will, as did all the other angels.

The reason why those who have the Beatific Vision cannot choose anything other than God is not because they don't have free will anymore. Rather it is because there is nothing else to will. There is nothing else that you could want and hence there is nothing else that is a possible choice for you other than God.

Obviously satan and those with him did not have this.

I don't think it's correct to say that the only will is Heaven is God's. All the creatures (created beings) there retain their own natures, which includes wills. But those wills are perfectly aligned.

The question of how Satan was able to rebel is an interesting one. The answer given in the post above this one is the standard answer, and I find it reasonable, but as far as I know it is not de fide and speculation on this point is permissible.

Angels have free will? I didnt know that, I thought it was unique to men. Thanks
