.....and anything else not in accord with our faith.

I'm not certain how far one should take this.

The Netflix one seems more obvious to me, but say you work somewhere that supports abortions.......and by support, I mean monetarily. Even that one, I would be inclined to start looking for another job.......but their is a myriad of situations that connects us to some wrong being done.

I understand some things go several layers deep and it's not a direct support of something but I mostly speak of things that don't go that deep and can be seen. I know I'm being vague but it's largely because there is so many situations one can be in......like:

The company you work at openly supports LGBTQ.
Hulu has decided to invest into (stock) death machines (assisted suicide).
Buying stock on medicinal marijuana. (In so far as there being a demonic force behind it all)

Just looking for guidance for the myriad of situations one can find himself in.

There actually is a valid reason to cancel Netflix, but not what you mentioned, which, if applied consistently would require you to live as a hermit in the woods. Rather, cancel Netflix because of their gay Jesus movie.

It almost impossible to buy anything from any company that doesn't either indirectly or direct contribute to the abortion industry.

I didn't mention a reason.

That is actually the very reason why I canceled it.

Hermit in the woods works.

Wasn't there a list of books Catholics should stay away long ago?

I'm not entirely certain this would be a good idea but perhaps helpful to have a list of companies/institutions to stay away from.

the list would probably be very expansive ... as we discovered in another thread, one of the "good-guys" was discovered to be an extreme hypocrite , so the realization that discretionary spending need not go in that direction was an easy one to make

I figured as much, I just thought there were some more than others in regards to impact and severity. Rule of thumb type of thing.

Dominic,

Use your best judgment. There is no reason not to take action. Netflix has immoral and inappropriate content.

All the big ones.

As for netflix, it's getting pretty close for me. They've decided to be on the front lines on the wrong side of the culture wars, so for me they are distinguished amongst their peers. Few companies are as active in these matters as they are. If I had to pick one company to boycott, it would be netflix. The problem is that they are one of few online tv providers.

I suspect a company doesn't become bold that way without feeling a sense of power on their end. They know what we know and more.

I often joke with my wife about finding our State's Hermit License Department and getting one. Because the woods are nice ... more so than much of contemporary society. And, if you have books, .............

DW is much more severe than I in not patronizing various businesses. When we go out for a meal, she has veto power and exercises it.

I, OTOH, am more symbolic. I don't do Starbucks, in any of its forms .... because they have decided that I am not allowed to protect myself in any of their stores ... I suppose NW USA karma will deter any gunman from shooting me. Another example is, now, Chick-fil-A ... not because, on first examination, they support various LGBTQ causes, but because they, with deeper analysis, are hypocrites and liars about their support. I am guessing that more deeper analysis would reveal that some of their support of specific LGBTQ organizations would be unacceptable.

We used to contribute to PBS and NPR, but since both are overtly political advocacy groups using my tax dollars --- no more. And we shop at Hobby Lobby instead of other options.

Watch old movies instead. They are often better. Old tv series are ussually better as well.

There are MANY online TV providers, and several more are being started this year.

In addition to Netflix, there is Hulu, Disney+, CBS All Access, Amazon Prime, DC Universe,. WWE, Facebook Watch, Direct TV Now, streaming services for HBO, Showtime and Starz, and Apple TV, with streaming services from Warner Brothers and Paramount starting later this year.

Following Doom's list, there is also Sling TV. We looked at that option in the past.

I look at it this way, the algorithm does not tell Netflix why I canceled, however, as a customer it does track what I watch, what I vote up and what I vote down. If more people did this, used the Netflix system to show them what I do not want to see, it might make some difference.

I don't know. It sounds like mob rule.......numbers dictate things.

I can't imagine something as blatant as making Jesus gay is not something that would bend to algorithms.

22% of the US population is Catholic, so, let's assume 22% of Netflix subscribers are Catholic. If 22% of their subscribers gave a negative review to any film, it would be noticed.

Definitely true. For one thing, there used to be a Catholic Legion of Decency, so the immorality-creep on TV and in movies was better held in check when they were around.
