Soo...tomorrow is Friday. Do I remember correctly that abstention/penance do not apply since it's the Octave of Christmas? It's treated the same as when a solemnity falls on a Friday? I need to be able to keep this straight...Lord forgive my inability to do so!

AFAIK that's the Easter Octave only.

Scared Fish would be a great band name.

You really don't, if you just observe Friday penance every Friday of the year you will never be wrong, and you can stop worrying about whether it is optional for a week here or there.

I know we've had this discussion before, and IIRC it was established that Friday of the Christmas octave is NOT treated as a Solemnity.

Unless of course, Christmas Day itself is on Friday, as will happen in 2020.

:fyi:

You know how when you first look at writing and you’d swear it says one thing but a second look reveals that it actually says something different? That happened to me just now, and as a result, I think “Sacred Fish” would be a better name.

According to one list put out by the seminary, I have a degree in Scared Scripture.

I confirmed this with a canon lawyer.

I didn't know they had the kind of comprehensive yet detailed knowledge required to confirm that a priest has a degree if Scared Scripture.

And lived to tell the tale, but was he also scared?
