I wear a really nice gold miraculous medal I bought in Rome...

I am a fairly new convert...

am I being impious if I don't wear a brown scapular? And are there any "metal" scapulars, that serve the same function? DDD

No, it's not impious not to wear a brown scapular, although I do encourage people (including you) to do so.

It is possible to buy a scapular medal if for some reason you're not comfortable with the cloth.

And, if you don't know about the blessings of medals, which are sacramentals you can ask your priest to do that.

I highly recommend the practice as a convert myself.

If you do decide to wear the scapular, talk to a priest about getting enrolled. There is a short ceremony that any priest can preform which enrolls you properly.

If you do wear one, make it a sturdy one. Down here in the sunny, sunny South, those things deteriorate rather quickly what with all the sweating. Get two shoestrings, sew some brown wool together (I enclose a Miraculous Medal inside) and get it blessed.

There's a metal scapular available from Autom: https://www.autom.com/product/antique-f ... gJFw_D_BwE

Or The Catholic Company: https://search.catholiccompany.com/cath ... l-Scapular

Or Leaflet Missal: https://www.leafletonline.com/sterling-silver-scapular

Just for the record....the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel no longer has to be of wool. (it could be polyester.)

Ugh. Polyester. Well, at least I wouldn't have to iron it. ;)
