Is there a saint who taught the approaches to Divine Abandonment that you read of in the writings of Fr Caussade or Fr Jacques Philippe?

I know that all saints ultimately abandon to Divine Providence.
But is there a saint who is more emblematic of it or who seems to be the source that inspires the writings of Fr Caussade or Fr Philippe?
Specifically with respects to their approaches of the acceptance of God's will in relation to suffering?

Thanks

Quick reply St. Francis de Sales

Quote:
Distrust of self and confidence in God are the two mystic wings of the
dove; that is to say, of the soul which, having learnt to be simple, takes
its flight and rests in God, the great and sovereign object of its love, of
its flight, and of its repose.

Both of them are simply passing along the result of centuries of thought on spiritual growth.

Which I don't doubt.
But, if there was a modern philosopher that someone admired and that philosopher was of a thomistic mindset.... and say this admirer didn't know anything of Thomism and he was to inquire "is there a saint from which this position of yours has some connection to?"...
It could be said that it's the passing of thought on intellectual growth that has happened over the centuries. Or, "St Thomas Aquinas formalized the approach to a level and degree no one else had done before."

So, I'm looking to see if there was a St Thomas Aquinas of the acceptance of suffering and abandonment to Divine Providence

If you have Fr. Philippe's book he quotes many saints in the appendix.

Floating around somewhere in the ether is a Thomistic work about how "Rejoice always!" (Phil 4:4) is the proper response to a Catholic understanding of providence.
