What is an Anticipatory Mass?

A Mass on the evening before a Sunday or Holy Day that satisfies the obligation.

When there is no official "Vigil Mass". Yes, I know 99.999999999999% of parishes refer to every Saturday PM mass as "vigil mass" but that makes me shoot daggers from my eyes.

Next year in USA, January 1st is not a holiday of obligation even though it falls on a Monday.

We can still celebrate as the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God.
