I have heard some very strong condemnations of the LT on this site and from other Catholic sources in general.

What was Romero's relationship with LT and is there anything you find troubling or confusing in his Canonization?

Caesar Romero was a great Joker, but I don't think he deserves to be canonized.

Umm....could you be more clear whom you are talking about?

First thing, the Canonization is still in the "IF" column:

http://www.catholicnews.com/services/en ... t-year.cfm

The archbishop officially promoting Blessed Oscar Romero's cause for sainthood said he hopes the process will conclude within a year and Catholics around the world will honor St. Oscar Romero, martyr.

Romero's advocates adamantly deny that he was associated with LT in any substantive way. I don't know enough to assess that claim.

My understanding from what I have read about Romero is this :That although he himself was not a proponent of LT, his close advisors were. Jesuits from the Catholic University mostly.
LT. A good short first account to read about LT i t can be found in Hell and other Destinations by journalist Piers Paul Read. Read is an orthodox Catholic. It was written on the ground during the war and it shows you quite clearly what the problem was with LT.

I don't know about +Romero specifically, but many Jesuits in El Salvador during the communist insurgency, most definitely supported their cause. UCA El Salvador (Universidad Centroamericana), the center of Jesuit activity in the country, was a hotbed of FMLN guerrilla support. It was known as the intellectual center of the revolution.

You gotta use the whole sentence. But I like the idea.

This is one reason I have such an extensive book collection. I won't even go to the local library to read stuff, let alone as far away as this suggests.
