At the resurrection we will be given glorified bodies. So, and please forgive me as I'm sure the answer is as easy as my question is silly, will we then need to eat food or will these new bodies have a new nature?

Thanks!

Our best example of what sort of body we will have is Christ after the Resurrection. Christ ate after the Resurrection, so, my guess is that we will be able to eat but will not NEED to eat. See Luke 24:42-43

Kelly is correct.

If they had a new nature, they would no longer be human bodies.

Thanks!

This is what I thought.....

So now I'm wondering what kind of food we will eat in Heaven.

None. It isn't necessary.

It's heaven. Pizza and Jack Daniel's, obviously.

fakeedit:

It was probably inappropriate for me to talk about drinking Jack Daniel's in heaven. I mean, after all, it is heaven, and that's something I should take more seriously. So my sincere apologies there.

It would obviously be pizza and Woodford Reserve.

At least you weren't going to post a link to Tom T. Hall's "Old Dogs, Children, and Watermelon Wine." That would have been totally inappropriate.

All the playful banter aside (although Jack Daniels is a serious subject), how would eating not be necessary? If our bodies have the same nature as they do today (although glorified), then wouldn't we require the same things for life that we do today? Isn't one of the defining characteristics of a life, assimilation?

There's a lot one could say about this, but if I may grant this for argument's sake. I'll ask, is eating the only way to achieve "assimilation" even in this present world? And before you answer, I might remind you that in our glorification we truly become partakers of the divine life. It would to me a bit odd to say that if you are partaking of the divine life itself that the only way to stay alive would be to assimilate this or that physical compound by this particular physical mechanism.

Glorified bodies retain the ability to assimilate but have no need to do so.

So what will be eating at the heavenly banquet? Covenants are sealed with a meal. I would think we would be at least eating bread and wine....maybe lamb (or fish)?

I understand that we wouldn't need to eat either to live or to be perfectly happy beyond our wildest imaginations if we make it to Heaven. But does this necessarily mean that we will not be eating?

Read chapter four of the letter of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Christians at Smyrna:

http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/0109.htm

Christ allowed his apostles to touch him and He also ate and drank with them.

Since His glorified body no longer suffers, He has no need of food.

St. Thomas Aquinas does cover glorified bodies in his book Summa Theologica, Supplement, questions 78-85. :fyi:
