I listened to a podcast where a Bishop Overbeck is saying that major changes were coming with the Amazon Synod.

I've read his views and again... it's stunning how the Church allows some of these bishops to remain a bishop.

I am willing to bet that the Church is about to split again.

Things are not good now.

I really, really, really hope I’m wrong.

Remember right after Francis was elected, how everyone pointed out the fragility of his health and said his pontificate wouldn’t last more than 5 years? That was 6 years ago.

There was talk last year that the Pope wanted married priests under limited conditions because of the shortage in S. A. It could just end up as a slippery slide.

From what I can gather, the brief for the Synod would not address some of the alarmist issues mentioned. However, high jacking such a gathering by activists is a common tactic of secular modernists.

So if I pay an additional $120, can I get the Amazon Prime synod, guaranteed to be completed in 2 business days?

I mean, one shouldn't be "concerned" in the sense that one can do anything about it

Saying my Hail Mary's is efficacious.

There appears to be more expressing that something very wrong is happening with this synod.

And we have to pray much and not panic whatever does happen.

I spoke with an individual from Africa recently and was surprised to learn that Roman Rite Catholic Churches there are already allowing married men to become priests. He said it's not spoken about in North America and Europe but one can look at parishes in Africa to see it (I didn't bother, don't have the inclination to learn another language just to verify.)

If that is true, things are amiss and need either fixing or a serious examination of events on the ground.

I don't know how I feel about a change to that particular aspect of the Faith but generally I don't think huge sweeping changes are good.

This is close to true in SOME African countries - far from it elsewhere. It is a huge continent!

But these priests aren't married, they are in concubinage. Benedict XVI started to clean house, depriving a few bishops of their office (when they refused to resign).

We had the problem before. We solved it by a movement (led by a deacon initially) that involved physically dragging offending priests out of residence and offering them the option of swearing on relics to put away the concubines. That was the only "option" given!

A friend was in the Peace Corps in Columbia ... some years ago. He states that the priests he knew were either gay or had concubines. An open secret.

There are more than 100 married Latin Rite Catholic priests in the US. One of them is my boss :)

When I visited my son in Texas some years ago, I met his priest.....he was a Catholic convert from being an Episcopalian priest and already had a wife before he became a Catholic priest.
